We have members complaining that when they open the forum they are getting a Trojan virus warning and an ActiveX warning! It doesn't do it to me at all! Can you tell what might be going on!

Hi wwminis.

There are problems with some Active-X control and a Trojan, but a qualified guess is that they are one and the same.

I get the Active-X warning when I go to the affected domains, but I have never seen a Trojan warning. I did not get anything when I looked at your forum now. But it comes and goes.

The problem is reported to the Webmaster by the .US Admin already, so he will look into it as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, keep your firewalls and anti virus programs up to date (as you should do anyway), and run all scanners you have a little more often than usual.

If the problem seems to get worse, or if you find more details. Please tell us.

FoxLeonard

Hello,

I have received complaints from several of my members about the "click to run an active x control" box that pops up SOMETIMES when they come to our forum.

It doesn't happen every time. For me, when it does, no matter where I click all my open browser windows close. I run the virus scanner afterwards, and always find at least one trojan.

I will pass along the previous suggestions from FoxLeonard to my members, and look forward to this problem being solved.

Thanks!

Piratelf, as you can see in the above, we have problems with a Trojan and Active-X control "thingy" on the US and BE domains. And it seems that the Webmaster is still struggling to find a permanent solution to that problem...

From what you and Lunaset say now, it seems it has "spread" to .com as well.

All I can do is report it to the Webmaster.

Assuming it is the same Trojan, please update your QuickTime Player to 7.2 and tell your members to do the same.

Quicktime player? Where would I find that, in my virus program?

Thanks
Jacko

No, Quicktime Player is a media player. And the Trojan we have problems with on BE and US, and now presumably on .com, uses a vulnerability in Quicktime Players older than 7.2 (the very latest version).

If you don't have it, then you don't need to update it.

Thank you... I looked in my programs and do not see that I have that.

Please take a screen shot and post it the next time you get the virus or trojan warning. Also, post the HTML page view of your forum at the time the virus or trojan warning appears. To do that go to the menu on your browser, click "page" then "view source". Then copy and paste the HTML code.
