Pistachio, there is a Phoogle Map (google map for phpBB) Mod, if it ever gets working properly, and another Map Mod as well, but you can't install a Mod on a ForumUp forum. And any kind of "automatic" map needs to be a Mod, as far as I can understand.
But I'm not sure exactly how you want it to work, so perhaps you can make use of something like Aardvark or Frappr:

Frappr has got tracking ability, but it will track members and guests alike. Perhaps you can get around that by putting it in a forum description that is hidden unless you are logged on.
Otherwise the best place to embed a map would be the Footer.

So the google map similar to vbgooglemap but esp. for forumup isn't working properly?
We were thinking of a map where members can add a tag with their name and avatar ... nothing fancier than that. The vbgooglemap is pretty good because you can zoom in and see the tag placement quite precisely.
Sorry, but what is tracking ability?
Thanks.

It's for phpBB2, the software we use. But you cannot install it on a ForumUp forum. I mentioned it in case you stumbled upon it in your own searches. And yes, it's bugridden...

Perhaps you can use Aardvark then, but I'm far from sure to what extent you can add one thing at the time on their maps.

It's software that uses the IPs to determine the locations of the users, to, in this case, put pointers on the map accordingly. And it is that kind of software that is connected to the user accounts, in the vb and phpBB Mods, as far as I can understand.
Frappr works in this way, except that it is not connected to the forum software, and therefore not to the usernames.

FoxLeonard, I've been looking at the Aardvark Map ... would this allow our members to add their own tags? I can't see that possibility listed.
That's what I feared (see my last post). Though I wouldn't give up until I have tested it...
I'm not sure there is a map that suits your idea, and can be used on a ForumUp forum. You cannot install the Mods, and the add-ons that you can use, are likely to be too simplified. But I'm far from an expert on online maps...
All you can do is actually to use google to the best of your ability, and see if you find something. And then you can come back here, and we'll figure out if and how you can use it on your forum...

I don't think I like the idea of tracking IPs to put pointers on the map, too much of an invasion of privacy if I understand things correctly. Anyhow the phpBB Mods aren't usable. With Aardvark it doesn't look as if pointers can be added by our members once the map is up .... I see it as being useful if you want to pinpoint your business or something like that. So that's out as well.
That leaves Frappr ... I was looking at Frapper and wondering and I'm reading through all the help/faqs section right now. If we decide to add a map from here and get a code ... where do I put this code? I would prefer to open a special area for the map, for registered members only, rather than put it in the footer where anybody can see it.
Thanks again!

Pistachio, you should be able to put it in a forum description field, and make that forum hidden unless you are logged in.
Frappr's server is down at the moment , so I couldn't make a real test (with the code Milano provided), but the code as such can be used that way, and I'm pretty sure that it will work as it should, just like remotely hosted shoutboxes work for logged in members only, if you hide the forum from guests.
I seem to remember that there is a "compact" map option available, which is probably to prefer, as the full size version may tend to "stretch" the forum and make it too wide for some screen resolutions, just like what has happened to this thread, due to the code...

I noticed the frappr site was slow, I'll leave it for now and try later or tomorrow.
I took a proper look at your avatar ... In Greek mythology, according to tradition, the Hyperboreans were a mythical people who lived far to the north of Thrace. Their land, called Hyperborea, or Hyperboria — "beyond the Boreas (north wind)") — was perfect, with the sun shining twenty-four hours a day. All those languages, that's terrific, just got to wondering how the vietnamese got in there
I'll come back and let you know how I get on. I'll look into the compact map option too to avoid a scroll bar at the bottom of the page if possible. Will also go for getting our own code. So just paste it into the description field of forum ... so easy!
Many, many thanks.
Have a good evening.

Erm, Hyperborea refers to my geographical locations, and not so much to the languages. Britain, or the north of it anyway, was most probably included in Hyperborea, and I happen to share my time between Sweden and the UK. As for the Vietnamese: T nói tiếng Việt (I don't speak Vietnamese), we have a very knowledgeable Vietnamese Moderator taking care of that part...
