Leonard, have done all that Very Happy perhaps you would like to go and take a look dancered

The ONLY thing is that now it's up and running I wanted to add more blogs. So I copied the html into a Word document and added another blog url (in exactly the same way), replaced the original html with the edited html BUT the new blog doesn't show up !!! Or is there an easier way that I'm just not seeing Embarassed

So far so good, Pi! Very Happy I would need to register to have a look, though...

About adding more URLs. That's a science in its own right...

First of all, use the Editing Panel provided by Thespringbox, as it will rule out "typos" and other mistakes of that kind.

Enter the URLs in the Feed URLs field, and click the tiny + sign. After that you can browse the Widget and see if it works.

That's the easy part... Laughing

You must use the correct feed URL (and not just the main URL of the blog). Look for links about RSS, Feeds etc, or tiny RSS or XML image buttons -- usually orange in colour. Click them, and you will come to a page with the same basic URL, but with extensions like:

/feed

/feeds

/feeds/posts/default

/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss

Example:

Most feed pages look like that.

---------------

In some cases you will get a feedburner link instead:

Example:

Register or Login on forum!

Scroll down and find Feeds on the right, click the orange RSS button, and you will end up here:

Only registered users can see links on this forum!
Register or Login on forum!

-------------------------

In both cases above -- various extensions as well as feedburner -- you can just copy the URL from the browser, paste it in the Feed URLs field and click the +

If you cannot find any RSS, Feed etc link or button to click on the blog page, you can try the extensions above in your browser, until you arrive at a feed page. However, some blog providers will have their own mysterious extensions. If so, their FAQs, or support, or just plain Google searches are the options.

And some pages will quite simply not be feed compatible, of course.

When you are done adding Feed URLs, click Finish, go to the Widget again, via your profile, get the new HTML from options and paste it into the Forum Description field.

Et Voilá!

I thought as a moderator you could look without being registered!

Actually what I found out is that I made a mistake trying to edit the html in Word as it put breaks in that shouldn't be there. I copied it again into wordpad, saw the mistakes, and it now works Very Happy So I shall be adding more bloggers' urls as and when. Thank you I did realise the feed url was different, must have been learning something along the way Smile but I very much appreciate your taking the trouble to point that out.

thankyou for everything!

Scoobs, I did actually reply -- if with a link -- on page one of this topic, though I'm afraid that it became more like a footnote in a long post to Pistachio. Hard for you to find. Sorry about that...

Here we go again:

Just wondering, what is RSS and what does it do?

It's a "live feed" on your site, of what's happening on other sites. That's the (too) short answer, but there is more info here:

I use an alternative for showing RSS feeds from
Only registered users can see links on this forum!

This allows creation of scrolling feeds from a specified source. Ours is a football forum, so we have use RSS feeds from the BBC and Sky Sports. The feed can be placed in the forum description panel on the index page or can be added to the top of the page using scripts.

1. Example in forum description space on index page (see News and Information forum and wait for scrolling new to appear):

2. We have team specific news at the top of the team forums, e.g. for Manchester City (in the banner space below the image; wait a few seconds:

The HTML code for the first option is:

Code:
<script language="JavaScript" src="http://www.feedcommander.com/free/rssread.php?src=http://newsrss.bbc.co.uk/rss/sportonline_uk_edition/football/rss.xml&title=y&lines=6&boxpadding=0&b_width=350&b_height=40&h_bar=n&v_bar=n&mq=y&mq_di=UP&mq_n=3&mq_dy=200&b_color=EFEFEF&b_style=none&b_b_color=ffffff&b_b_weight=thin&t_font=Arial&t_s_bold=y&t_s_italic=n&t_s_underline=n&t_s_marquee=n&t_size=10&t_align=center&t_color=aa44aa&i_max_char=0&i_font=Arial&i_s_bold=n&i_s_italic=n&i_s_underline=n&i_s_marquee=n&i_size=10&i_color=4444aa&c_max_char=0&c_font=Arial&c_s_bold=n&c_s_italic=n&c_s_underline=n&c_s_marquee=n&c_size=10&c_align=left&c_color=000000&html=n" type="text/javascript"></script>

There is an interactive tool for customising the feed you want. The RSS source, scrolling direction, size and background colour of box, fonts etc.

Only registered users can see links on this forum!
Register or Login on forum!

Once you are familiar with the feed you can tweak more of the options in the script than using the tool.
