Hey, I was just doing a search on the forum. I have been going through the backup topics. Every single one is about not getting a backup, or a backup is not working. Things like that.

I was just wondering, as anyone ever moved from ForumUp to their own server? I mean if you do the backup correctly will it work? I am on a webmastering forum that is ranked number one in Google.

So I have the support I need. I am planning on moving my forum in the future, however as I have not long left school and I am not working yet. I don't have much money.

So basically I was wondering if there was any sucess anywhere which I can read and witness? I just don't wanna spend my last pennies on something that won't work.

Thanks,
BlueEew.

Hello. Did you read this thread:

Apparently, finally after doing various things, all the data was received. But it was not an easy thing. However, that forum did not wind up transferring the ForumUp data to their new server, since it apparently was problematic in some way.

I did actually read that one. I also discovered a message of that member saying "we didn't transfer the database because the database was to large".

As anyone ever moved sucessfully do you know? My forums database isn't as large as that one so it should be a problem with size.

I don't know. I only remember people saying they did get the download. People who then did move away from ForumUp would not likely post back here on this support forum that they did successfully move the database. I suppose you could look at the posts where people spoke about trying to get the backup, and then go to their url to try to find out what happened afterwards.

Maybe someone does know of a successful move.

Can that be answered?

We can't guarantee anything, as we - staff members - can't get your backup if it is not working. We all depend on Raulken, we can only pass on messages, so if it is not working you'll have to wait for him.

I remember 2 members some months ago, they waited weeks (if not months) until they had help of Raulken.

And in the topic about backups it's stated that the back-ups are still in a test-stadium and that you won't get a refund if you're not able to get one.

If I do pay to get a backup, I will only need to know if I will get the download thats all. I don't need help using the database here, I just need to know if I will get the backup.

I know.

And like I said, we can't guarantee that works. I saw a member last week who did not get his backup, but there have been others who did. If it does not work for you, we (staff members) can not help you and you'll have to wait for Raulken - that can take some time (like in the example I gave in my previous post).

So we can not guarantee you that you'll get one. As for some people it works and for others it doesn't.

Hope it's clear now. Smile

Okay. I think I am just going to go for it, if I don't get the backup I will contact Raulken. Anyways it might be one or two weeks until i decide anyways. Thanks for your help. Smile

Actually, the guy who asked this question back in February, did manage to migrate his board to vBulletin. Also we had a board hosted at forumup.gr and we, as well, succeeded in moving it to a privately hosted phpBB3 board.
