Greetings,
I did a search for the answer to my question first, both using the "search" tool and by manually scouring the threads for something similar, but could not find the answer to my question.
I am using the free, unsubscribed version of ForumUp for now, while I develop my forum, and may well get it registered later once I have the users to support it.
I have a fairly elaborate plan for creating Groups and Ranks on my forum, being that I am the Maréchal-de-camp of a large clan of online gamers, the Zouaves of Death, who play Travian. Our ForumUp Forum Groups and Ranks will reflect the rank structure of our army, including Regimental Officers, Battalion Officers, NCO's, and soldiers.
I was wondering, before I start creating the Groups and Ranks, if I am going to hit some kind of limit? It would be good to know that in advance.

Hi Christophe, it seems that you have misunderstood something about ForumUp, as you say:

There is no subscription, or additional registration in that sense. There is only the Ads Free, that you have to pay for (through PayPal), but it does not change anything else. The forum is the same (except that you can use the Header) and the support is the same.
You will find information about Ads Free here:

Now to your actual question:

There is no limit to the number of usergroups you can have on a forum.
In practice there may actually be a limit, somewhere in the hundreds or so, but I have never heard of someone having a problem because of too many usergroups on a phpBB2 forum, on ForumUp or elsewhere.
As you intend to set up many usergroups, it can be good for you to know that you can appoint other members as Usergroup Moderators, which means that they can add members to the group(s), without having Administrator permissions. All while you, as Admin, can add members to all groups. Just in case you didn't know it already...

Thank you for your reply. I guess that I had assumed that the Ads-Free version would also remove some limitations on the account.
Yes, I know about delegating moderators to enroll members into Groups. That is something that I am certainly going to be doing, to spread the workload. I will be the only one, as Maréchal-de-camp, who can appoint a new member of the Colonels group for each Regiment. Myself and the Colonels can then add new Majors for each Battalion within a Regiment. Myself, the Colonels, and the Majors can then add new Lieutenants and Soldiers within each Battalion. This allows the Majors of each Battalion to manage their own Battalion, and allows the Colonels of each Regiment to manage their own Regiment.
Having unlimited Groups and Ranks is going to be great! We already have 2 Regiments, giving a total of 26 Forum Groups, not counting ancillary Groups. Every Regiment that I add will require a further 13 Groups each. Each Group that I have is also shadowed with a Special Rank, so that I can have epaulet insignias used as Rank Images.
We are truly set to become the most organized Alliances within Travian. Our ForumUp forum is going to be a major asset to our clan. As I mentioned on our forum, "The true strength of the Zouaves of Death is in collaboration. Our highly organized structure and our clear channels of communication up and down the ranks is what underpins all of our victories."

This is for an online, browser-based game called Travian. It is a very popular game, that runs on many servers all over the world. The Zouaves of Death run on the .com servers only at present, but the way that I have got it set up allows us to easily expand to other servers also.
