I post a long story
I want to go back and bold a word
I highlight the word, click the "B" tag to bold it
It puts the at the end of the post
Then I have to hit the "B" tag again for the
which is also put at the end of the post

This is lame. How can I change it so the code tags act like they do here in this post that I'm typing in?

Thank you,
Chris Wink

HRnB, as far as the text tags go, the best thing to do is to write what you want to write, then highlight -- like when you copy and paste -- the part of the text you want in bold (for example), and click the B button, then you get the [ b ] at the start of the higlighted text, and the [ / b ] at the end.

The same works with quote tags, code tags etc, as well.

I think you misunderstood him. I have seen this on other forums.

I'll register and see what I can do.

Also, what Internet Browser are you using?

It is a problem with FireFox. It works with IE fine.

Try customizing your settings in Tools>>Options of your internet browser.

Also, are you using Firefox?

It's not exactly a Firefox bug, because it works with Firefox as well as with IE7 here, but with IE7 only, on HRnB's forum.

This is bolded with highlighting and one click at the B button using Firefox...

On the other hand, the smilies end up at the end, where ever I "preclick" with the cursor.

And yes, I was reading the question too fast, and missed that you are already using the highlighting method, HRnB. Thanks for pointing it out Scoobs... (I would be lost without you and Alvas... Laughing )

I honestly don't have a clue why it behaves like that. Nor do I know what -- if anything -- can be done about it, at ForumUp's end.

Yes, I'm using FF. Thanks for the help guys.
As said, it does work ok here using FF. Could it be the layout I'm using?
I guess I can try switching to a different layout.

It's not the layout, HRnB. And it is more Firefox related, than ForumUp related.

The highlighting is working here for me too, but the smilies end up at the end of the post, where ever I try to put them.

The exact same thing happens on my .com test forum, as well as on my .se test forum. Hightlighting and adding tags works, smilies don't end up where they should.

Firefox is "misreading" something on all the forums, and for some obscure reason it is "misreading" more on the particular server where your forum is. (.com is on more than one server).

I'm sorry to say that I doubt that there is something we -- the Webmaster rather -- can do about it.

Erm, that forum is not a ForumUp forum at all. Nor do we know what kind of server and server software etc. they are using.

When I said .com above, I meant the forumup.com domain, and not .com in general.

Firefox is most probably not "misreading" phpBB2 in itself, but there is something with the ForumUp setup -- from server, and server software to forum software and special mods -- that Firefox can not handle perfectly. The smilies-go-wrong problem seems to be all over ForumUp, while the additional, but closely related, highlighting problem appears on one forumup.com server only (as far as we know).

In all other respects Firefox works as good, or even better than, IE7, with ForumUp forums.

So it is not a bug, or something wrong. It is just one or another difference in the setups. A difference that IE7 can handle, while Firefox "struggles" a little.

I guess I can try switching to a different layout.

HRnB, some further testing revealed that your assumption os absolutely correct.

The AshGrunge Template is part of the problem.

If you choose another template you will get rid off the highlighting problem (but the smilies problem is likely to persist).

I went through all the templates I happen to have installed on my .com testforum. Highlighting with Firefox worked on the following:

Ad infinitum template
Argen blue
BB tech
Black and white
Charcoal 2
darkages
dgfwarcraft
dgf wow
gen babylone
blue glass
Iris
Warcraft alliance

The tags ended up in the wrong place with these two:

Myl noel
Ash Grunge

This suggests that you can choose almost any template you like, and chances are very good that the highlighting method works as it should.

You're awesome Fox! Thank you.
Maybe when I get some nads, I'll try to make my own design. I just really liked the ashgrunge design. I wonder if she/he is still around? I could ask if they have a fix.
Thanks again for all the help,
Chris Wink
