I've had two members complain of getting "bounced" to eBay while logged into my THH forum.

One says it happened three times while composing a post. Another time will just dragging the mouse across a post trying to get to the button to click on reply.

She says she's running Firefox and that it's not a pop-up kind of thing.

Have you heard, or do you know anything about this before?

I have not heard of that happening. If it doesn't happen to anyone else, it sounds like they got some kind of malware on their computers.

Tell them to delete their cookies and cache. In Firefox one goes to Tools>Clear Private Data.

Then tell them to read the following FAQ:

Tell them to download Lavasoft's free Ad-Aware program and run it on their computers. Then restart their computers.

After that, they should run one of the other programs to find and eliminate trojans, etc. that may be causing the problem.

When people are logged in, those underlined words with links to ads don't show.

Tell that person to login first before clicking to reply to a post, and see if the problem still exists for that person.

Yeah, we've been over that double underline thing. I even created a thread here about it.

If you read more in the thread you'd see that two members also mentioned getting bounced while in the middle of creating a post.

They were logged in (obviously) and typing a post,

and got bounced right to an eBay auction page.

But was the forum page still there, and the eBay page a new tab or window? Maybe the eBay page was slow to load and while she was starting to post, the eBay page finished so that tab, or new window, came to the forefront, with the forum page behind it. And she just thought the forum page itself turned into an eBay page, but it really didn't.

"Was the forum page still there?"

I don't know cause it's never happened to me. However it shouldn't much matter. It's an intrusion that would be very annoying and I'm sure it's not what Forumup intended to have happen.

I don't know anymore than I've posted here, or has been discussed in the thread I linked to.

Now a member has paid for no-ads, so it shall be interesting to see if it happens again. Or to somebody at a different forumup community.

Until it happens again I guess there's nothing else to discuss.

It does matter, because if it is opening in another tab, it could be just a popup - which is normal for ForumUp forums to have. Wink

Anyway, keep us updated if it happens again. Smile

Post #3 in the thread I linked you all to.

Quote:
I run Firefox. And it's not a pop-up ad; I'm actually bounced to ebay , the auction page I'm sent to varies and doesn't seem to have any relation to the underlined words in posts. I was bounced after trying to click on a link on one of your posts, too, and when I started replying to your answer, I was bounced to some ebay auction for a dress. I've never experienced an irritation like this anywhere else.

I'm not sure I can put it any other way since it has not happened to me personally.

Since the ads have been removed I've not had a complaint.

I thought I had accidentally opened eBay! Margaret, it didn't open a new window, it went to eBay in the same window. It might be the ads.

I'm using Fire Fox and the forum I mentioned doesn't have those underlined words.

Must have something to do with the ads. Possibly instead of being set to open in a new window, it is opening in the same window.

This is obviously a "new" problem.

Since one of my members paid for no-ads I've not had one complaint.

This tells me it's something specific about the ad. Something beyond just a bit intrusive and annoying.

I would beg the staff here to question any recent changes or additions to the ads that are running. My forum is a .org forumup community.

Has something within the last few days changed regarding those ads?

I am very glad others are reporting this problem.

Thanks.
