That wasn't meant as a "Hurry up", but more as a expression that I want it. It wasn't serious, that's why I used the --> Wink

Dear Forumup team,

I was wondering if the owners of forumup-forums will get a notification e-mail if the possibility to update to phpBB 3 is finaly there. And if everyone will get their forums updated, or only if you ask for it. And I was wondering if the update to phpBB 3 will be at the same time for all forums, because I have a forum on forumup.nl (although it is English XD) so will there be a delay between the update of forums from forumup.com and forumup.nl?

I hope my questions are clear to you all,
Greetings, Mortem

All forums will be updated to PHPBB3 but it probably won't be all at once so one domain may be updated before or after another as it will take time to update everything.

Thanks for the reply! But from what Silvershark said I assume ALL forums will be updated to phpBB 3, so we're left no choise when time arives to stick to phpBB 2. Is that for a reson?

No I don't believe you will have that option to stay with 2. Most likely because the old software will have no use since it has been updated to 3.

I believe one of the less used domains will be updated first, to insure all went well, with less forums affected if there was some sort of problem with the update.

Raulken did not say which domain will be the first to change to phpBB3, so we will just have to wait and see.

.Com and .It will be the first two if the update goes well I think, like what
PirateScoobs said.

This is not because of the 3.0.4 release. Its only because the amount of actions that need to be taken in order to update properly. Users with little experience with php, html, css and databases (SQL) will have difficulties. Following the strict guidelines will make it work in a normal case. However in heavily modified forums and forum-providers (such as forumup) will have more trouble. Modified forums because 2.0.x mods do not work on 3.0.x and forum-providers because they have immense databases with extra information that doesn't come with standard 2.0.x.

I have been reading about phpBB 3 to be well prepared when we switch (or are switched0 Wink
Also started a forum with another host that already is working with version 3 to learn the general new features.
One thing I have found is that an external link in a post does not open in a new window or tab anymore.
The phpBB people wanted to comply with the newest web standards.
However, most of the people that run a forum don't want their visitors to be led away from their forum.
I wouldn't like that either. It's very confusing for most people and they get lost, not everybody is aware of being diverted to a new website.
Of course there is the right-click or CTRL + click, but again, not everybody knows these things.
And when you are used to having an external link open in a new window or tab automatically, it's hard to change ones habits.

There is the [click] BBcode (I created it on my test-forum) and now I found a Modification to solve this "problem" at the root, but (obviously) it can only be done by the forum owner, in our case Raulken.

As you can see it is written by the phpBB people themselves, which makes it a trustworthy and safe Mod I guess.

I for one would REALLY appreciate it if Raulken would make this change to the software.

Also I wanted to ask if it might be wise to use a standard style for ones forum during the transition.
I understand that the styles used for 2 will not work with 3. If at all possible, a notification some hours or days before the forums will get upgraded, could give us time to go back to a standard style. Maybe also remove some mods, scripts and/or gadgets. That might help to make the change go smoothly. (Just a thought of somebody who doesn't know much about this software stuff, but trying to help.) Wink

Standard in phpBB 3 is that external links open in the same window. And that is what I for one would like to be changed. And maybe it's not an official "Mod" but it would need to be done by the webmaster himself as far as I understand it, that piece of script has to be added or replace the original script.
(Is it called "script"? Confused I'm rather ignorant with this stuff, can you tell ? Laughing )

Removing counters and games etc would not be necessary either, to be honest, your forum and everyone else's will be fine.

Can't hurt either though Laughing The less "extras in the database of ones forum, the less chance something starts conflicting during or after the conversion.
I have been looking at the styles for phpBB 3, the ones that can be found on the official website, and the style I use at the moment isn't there. So I guess that when our forum is converted we will have the pro silver style instead ? ? ?
Bummer, we like our forum the way it looks right now . . . Wink Oh well, as long as the forum doesn't disappear into cyberspace, finding a new style isn't something to worry about. Rolling Eyes

You don't know what you are talking about, Danny. You are wrong about what you said. It IS a mod, as anyone can read and comprehend words they are able to sound out can clearly understand.

I am deactivating yet another of your accounts that you keep making. You were asked a few time to give the URL of your ForumUp forum and you did not. Plus, you keep posting inaccurate and incorrect information.

phpBB3 had many MORE bugs that they found and fixed, so now the latest version is phpBB3 3.0.5.

BUT, they are already planning phpBB3 3.0.6!! phpBB 3.0.6 will be a “feature” release, with several new features.

So, I hope Raulken waits until version 3.0.6 is released before changing ForumUp over to phpbb3.

It is not a fast, easy thing to convert so many servers and domains to new versions of a program, so I think it is better that we don't wind up downtime twice when if we wait a bit more, it will be only one period of downtime.

I agree with you. There is no hurry and it's much better to make sure the major bugs are ironed out before converting all the forums.
I can't begin to imagine what a huge task that is. Wishing all who are involved in it, the best of luck. Wink

I hope it is okay for us to make suggestions or ask general question though. At first I felt a little hesitant about the new version, being só used to the "old" one. But now that I have begun to take a closer look and started to work with phpBB 3.05, I'm beginning to like it more and more. Laughing
