FAQ - Emails from the automated Inappropriate Content Check

An automated Inappropriate Content Check on ForumUp forums is now active.

This service is an automated tool which analyzes all public content. In case it finds inappropriate content in your forum, such as vulgar language, adult content, spam, etc., the tool sends an email to the staff of the forum (moderators and administrators), adding the link to the topic with the inappropriate content.

The message will be similar to the quote below:

As Administrator or moderator of this forum, you are getting this automated email message as a warning to check the public contents of your forum. You need to insure that inappropriate content or any content that violates ForumUp's Terms of Service does not appear in public posts. You have 48 hours to clear the inappropriate content (remove posts, use the "word censor" tool, etc.)
Please do not reply to this message. Post on the support forum if you have any question.
Regards,
ForumUp Webmaster

What the staff of the forum should do after getting the email?

The staff have to check which kind of inappropriate content is in the given link.
If there are some spam topics, you just have to delete them.
If there are topics with vulgar language or adult content, inclucing gambling, they must be put in a private section of the forum, because they cannot be shown to the public. Or, for minor, rare cases of profane words, the word censor tool can be used.
Here is the guide on how to make a section private:

What happens if I ignore the email?

If the link does not show violations of

, nothing happens.
If there is inappropriate content and you don't put it into a private section, you may receive further emails.
If there are TOS violations (like porn, adult content or illegal content) ForumUp Staff will check your forum and will send a warning email to the owner of the forum allowing 48 hours to delete that content. After that time, if you have not deleted the illegal content, your forum may be banned.

I got the email, but the forum has quoted content with vulgar language: what do I do?

It's enough to state which kind of content it is, such as lyrics of a song, a quotation of a book, etc. But then, use the word censor tool in the admin panel to censor out profane words. Or put such content in a private section.
If the content is only for adults, it must be moved to a private section.

Can I avoid getting these email?

You can change your email address in your profile, but if your forum has inappropriate content and you don't take an action, ForumUp will proceed as if you got the email. This means that ForumUp will send another warning email to the owner of the forum allowing 48 hours to delete that content, and if also this one is ignored, your forum may be banned.

I continue getting emails for the same topic which does not show inappropriate content.

Double check the topic, and if you do not find anything inappropriate, just ignore the email.

Does this tool analyze also images?

No, it does not analyze images. It analyzes names of files and links.

Benefits of the tool

It advises you almost instantly when your forum has spam topics. Often spammers post links to viruses, malware, or porn websites.
It also advises you of posts that may have inappropriate content so that you can take necessary action.
