Not sure if this where to post this question, but it seemed the best bet. I see the process here for backing up and migrating your forum to another provider. Saw a caveat that this doesn't apply for moving from one ForumUp domain to another. So how does one do that?

While ForumUp.co.uk has suffered disastrous problems over the past eight days or so, it seems like ForumUp.com has been fine, judging by the fact this support board hasn't been down. Given the recent failures of some of these country-specific ForumUp domains, how would one migrate their forum and data to a more stable ForumUp domain?

Jabalong, please, include the URL of your forum.

There is no way you can transfer your forum to another domain on ForumUp. However, there is no such thing as a "more stable ForumUP domain". All of the domains are equally stable one never knows when when a problem can occur. ForumUp.com has also had problems in the past and the fact that now it while was fine, while .co.uk is down is just a coinsidence. You should now that our webmaster will try to fix any problem as soon as possible no matter on which domain it occurs.

Granted any domain can go down, but you can't blame users for having lost confidence in some of the country domains and wanting to explore moving to .COM. You even have your fellow mods in the urgent support thread (go have a look), suggesting that forum admins start up new forums over on .COM.

So with that in mind, how is it impossible to migrate our forums from one ForumUp domain to another? You are able to back up a board and deliver it to forum admins so they can migrate to another forum host, so how is it that you can't do the same on an internal basis withing ForumUp? Surely you can see how this seems illogical.

Otherwise the end message is if you want to backup, we'll help you move to a competing forum host but won't help you stay within ForumUp? If this was a business, that would be a failing strategy. Razz

(PS. Please don't ask me about my forum address again - it's there in the WWW button, isn't that what that button is for?)

It was suggested to make a backup forum to use while the main one was down, not as a new forum to start fresh from.

In the four years of ForumUp there has never been a situation where forums from other hosts have migrated into ForumUp with their old data, and it will most likely stay that way.

We do not use the WWW button for certain reasons. So please, put it in the signature like you have been asked by staff before.

Jabalong, I put the link to your forum in your signature. It was either that, or I would ban you since you had been asked several times to add it to your signature.

So far, Raulken has not transferred forums from one domain to the other. I completely understand your point. I will leave a message for Raulken about allowing a transfer from one ForumUp domain to another. As of this moment in time, though, it can't be done.

It is my personal opinion that if one's forum has been having problems for a long time on the .com.uk/.dk server, one might consider making a new forum on another domain. Yes, even start over. That is my personal opinion. I know that is not satisfactory for everyone. But it is one possible choice. The other choice is to wait and then things will be fine again. They always are after a while.
