My forum's pages have been loading very slowly for 5 days. It's frustrating trying to post any messages.

It might be your computer or your internet connection. Just now, your forum loaded so fast for me on my DSL connection it really couldn't get any faster. Here is what is was:
Page generation time: 0.029

2 seconds, almost 3 seconds, is almost instantly.

Remember, all your images that didn't come with the main template are on other websites. Your page won't load fully until that other website sends the images over to be seen on your website. If those other websites are running slowly, then it will affect the complete loading of your website. Same as with that counter script and counter image you have on your forum.

So, first remove every single image and counter script, then see how it goes.

Also, be sure to clean out your browser's cache and all temporary files.

Run a malware detection program to see if there is any junk to be deleted.

A bunch of malware and overloaded internet browser cache can slow down a computer.

It can also be a problem with your modem. They do go bad after a while. Mine did a few months ago and I had to get a new one. At first, you get a connection, but things are very slow, or randomly good and bad. Then, finally, the poor modem just ceases to work at all.

So, check on all those things and then see how it is for you.

I have a broadband connections and I've done everything that you've suggested.

This is a quote from one of my users yesterday:

Quote:
OMGggggggg!!!

I'm giving up....

I can't even open anything for minutes!!!

I'll try later....

It is working a little faster than it was yesterday but we usually go through this just before a crash. My .org loads instantly as do the other sites that I visit.

Your forum is calling up a stylesheet from another site:

That is having some problems sometimes.

I don't know why you have your forum have the special stylesheet, when your forum just looks like the regular subsilver.

You have to delete all scripts, get rid of calls to other websites. Put your forum back to the original subsilver, the way it was when you started.

Then, after all those offsite calls to your page are gone, then see if there is still a problem.

If you want, I will do it for you, getting rid of all scripts you have added.

We cannot possibly know if it is a ForumUp problem or not when you have scripts added to your forum.

Well, I logged into your forum and went to look at a thread. Then the page did take a few seconds to finish loading.

In some of the threads, the page is slow loading waiting for an overly large file size image to load, for example,

You have an animated birthday image that took a long time to load. The rest of the page past that post would not load until that image finished loading.

In order for a page to load quickly, there cannot be large, complex images called from an outside website that has to finish loading before the rest of the page can load.

Yep, the problem is the images waiting to load. When I go to many of the threads, reading the posts in the threads, the full page is not loading at first, waiting for some image from Imageshack to load.

Images are the main reason for slowdowns for a webpage to load. That can include people's avatar images.

It seems that images from Imageshack is the problem.

Maybe all of Imageshack is slow, no matter what image it is. If the Imageshack site is running slow, every forum or website that has images called from Imageshack will also run slow, waiting for the images from Imageshack.

I guess that it must be IS.

I changed the board and my profile to Sub Silver. I have a watch with a second hand and it consistantly took 22 seconds to load or refresh a page.

Thank you for your time and trouble.

It is because of your images.

I went to the following thread, and had to wait for the image of food you posted to finish fully loading before the rest of the page could:

The bottom of my screen said, "transferring date from img300/8143/1908def871a34abe8dbed08.jpg"

That above message is for the image of the food that YOU posted in that post.

So, actually, you are making the forum pages slow to open due to the images you are posting. Wink Post much smaller images, so they won't take as long to get transferred to your forum. As long as you post large images in posts, your pages where you posted images will always take several seconds to load.

It is not a ForumUp problem.

gg'ssimon, we are using the same graphic content and style sheet that we always have. We are using the style sheet to offer a range of color schemes beyond the standard subSilver. Our style sheet was worked out in close and painstaking consultation with Kana3 and has never caused the loading times we are experiencing now.

Animated titles do slow down a first loading of the site and we have always allowed for that, because once loaded those titles stay loaded and cause no further slowdowns in opening subsequent pages.

I have been using both RipWay and ImageShack for independent tasks, even today, and each are operating at their normal rates.

Our typical loading times are about .024 and we are content with that for reasons explained. A loading time I got today of .554 and other unusually long times raise questions that are not explained by what you suggest.

With respect, in light of what I've explained it doesn't seem time for such measures yet. Nothing has changed, except for loading times.

BTW, this page here had a loading time readout of .065 after the previous post. I don't think style sheets and fancy animations are the cause of that.

Well, today and yesterday, the images from Imageshack are part of the reason. Again, I logged into your forum, and went to read two different threads. The first page was waiting for Bloodymary's Avatar image to load before it would load anything past her post:

The next thread, the page was waiting for 2pelo Honey's avatar to load:

In both cases, those were the first posts in the threads. The rest of the thread could not load until Imageshack finish serving those avatar images.

But also, on two other threads on your forum, the rest of the page was waiting for Google analytics.

Some days things will be slower.

That means 6 1/2 seconds. Not too slow. This page does have avatars stored on Imageshack. Mine is. So maybe Imageshack is a bit overloaded the past few days and the transmissions are slower.

Also, just because the Ripway site was not slow other times, does not mean it will never have some slowdowns.

Go now to the page with your stylesheet:

It won't load.

Ack! I just went to Ripway.com's help page, and my Avast virus program said there was a virus and aborted the connected to the Ripway page! Look at my screenshot:

I advise you to remove that ripway css from your forum. You don't need it anyway to just change some colors. You can change colors on the various areas on basic subSilver from in the admin panel. No separate stylesheet needed.

Hi

Our forum is also having the same problem. Recently, members as well as staff members have problems loading the forum. They said it takes about 10 mins just to load the index page. Also, when we access the forum, the color turns to blue (i think it's the default?) while we usually have the forum color "green."

Please help!

Your index page just loaded for me in 0.041. That means 4 seconds. It got slowed down a bit at the Google analytics, but 4 seconds is not what one would call overly slow.

I am amazed that it would take some of your members 10 mins. for the index page to load. Are they on a dialup connection?

But also, I see you have a css loaded on Ripway:

Only registered users can see links on this forum!

Delete that. Ripway is messed up right now. Put that url to your style sheet in the browser. You will see that it can't access the page.

If anyone has links to some outside site, or any scripts, those must be deleted from your forum first before you report a problem here with ForumUp.
