Hi there,

I'm the administor for mrwees.forumup.com. I'd like a copy of the user file(s) with passwords for my personal use. Is it possible that I can download this/ftp this to my personal computer just for my forum?

Thank you,

David Wees

There is no need for an admin to know user's passwords, nor should they.

As admin, you can delete or edit someone's sig, avatar, website URL and location listed in their profile from the admin panel, should you take objection to them. You don't need to login as the user and make such changes from their profile on the index page.

If a user forgets their password, they can click on the "I forgot my password" link on the sign-in page.

What other reason would you think you need user passwords for?

I need the passwords so I can migrate all of them to another forum on a more stable server. This one keeps crashing on me. I've had at least 2 dozen errors that I've noticed and not a single error on the other site.

How will having people's passwords help you mirgrate to another server exactly?
If you already have a forum else where just have them sign up to that one.

Yeah that's an obvious solution, but my users are all students. I will obviously have to have them all sign up again, but 9th graders tend not to like to have to do extra work, and some of them were having enough difficulty signing up the first time. Most of my users are reasonably competent, but some of them are, as far as I am concerned, barely computer literate.

The only other option I can offer is for you to wait for the backup feature to become active at forumup and pay for a backup. Though I'm not 100% sure that this will allow you to carry over all the users...perhaps another moderator can confirm or deny this for you.

Make it count as a grade, and you'd be surprised at how much more willing and able they become. Very Happy Post instructions step-by-step for them to follow.

Or, you sign them all up and assign passwords to them. That would probably wind up faster and accurate.
