Dear Sir gg'simon,

We are a couple of friends that have created a fast growing forum in Belgium : hrage.forumup.be and we have a question that our Belgian admins, Jan and his co - admin didn't really understand, or couldn't answer so we are coming to 'the big boss' himself to maybe satisfy our demands.

In Belgium some discussion is going on between the fora in the top 10 of Forumup, like you have a top 10 on forumup.com, and as in everything, they all want to be the best.

Now as we notice how top10 rankings and statistics have enhanced the quality and attendance at our forum, we have a proposition for you.

Is it possible to add another top 10 for the bravest fora (maybe even to replace the new +50 fora because I don't really see the point in that one?). So the bravest fora get a ranking too, and what I mean with the 'bravest' is the fora that has the largest amount of messages posted by it's members, but has the smallest or a very small amount of members.

You see, it's more than just a count, it's like a quality label, because you have fora with 200 users that have 10000 messages and you have the stronger fora with 20 users that have even more than 10000 messages.

It is our belief that stimulating this little fora, the place where it all has started for in the forumstory, will enhance the quality of the content on the fora and will get you to create more efficient fora. Non-active users are whiped out of our files, so we do keep the usersregister fresh.
Like this you might save some space and get a real view about what's going on in most of the forums.

I hope you can consider our request and talk it through with the rest of the world of Forumup.

Kind regards,

Bert Declercq

Off course, I'm terribly sorry, but I didn't know that!
And I'm happy to give more explanation if you need it!

It's already great that Forumup responds this quick!

Selene, I'm wondering if he is referring to the ranks. It seems that they are having an unofficial contest to see who can rack up the most posts and they are running out of ranks and want to create more. I may be wrong, it won't be the first time! Wink

What they're after, refers to the TOP 10 ForumUp sites that you see listed out at www.forumup.com.

But Bert does't want a rating based purely on a sequential count of Posts.

Berts want the number of Members to be taken into the process.

For example:
Everyone else Members = 10 , Post's = 100 , => 10 posts per Member.
Berts Team Members = 4 , Post's = 80 , => 20 posts per Member.

Berts Team wins, with the higher 'quality' of Membership.

That's it totally!

But as we asked to start such a ranking on forumup.be they said they didn't want to, because it was no habit at other forumupsites.
So that's why we come to the chiefforumupsite!

So what do you think?

Also: your forum contains porn, so it wont happen in ANYWAY.
I consider it also WEAK that you come now over here, since we werent even done with the discussion on BE Evil or Very Mad

First, you need to read carefully ForumUp's TOS.

Your forum is in violation of some of the terms.

Next, ForumUp forums are not to be used as contests to get listed on the directory page as the top anything. Some forums that used to on the top 10 wound up getting banned as it turned out they were violating ForumUp's TOS.

ForumUp Forums are to be used as a community, where members post meaningful messages to one another on particular topics. Making hundreds of not normal discussion posts just to try to get listed in the top 10 is not ok to do. One forum recently that did that was banned.

Instead of being concerned about being listed on the directory page as a top 10 forum, be concerned with having enjoyable discussions with members on your forum, and making sure your forum does not violate any of the Terms of Service.

Webmaster Raulken is THE big boss. I do not believe he will add a new system of forum rankings as you propose. He can read this himself and make his own decision, but currently, your forum has some problems with the TOS so focus on correcting that or your entire question will soon be irrelevant.

Ok thanks for your kind response. I've heard our Administrator is looking in to those TOS-problems...And maybe you're right we should be focussing on quality more than on content.

But what 'Jan' says, first of all doesn't concern me, because I'm not the user that is terrorizing the whole staff forum in Belgium and please, let's not get carried away in this situation.

We are a bunch of young guys, looking to connect on the internet, and you can see the proposition we made as a sign of how forumup and the whole forum-thing is living in this group.

So Please Jan. Cut the cr*p! Very politely meant, but don't take us out on one member of our forum.

Bert, there really isn't a polite way to tell someone to "cut the cr*p". Please have more respect for staff members, even if you disagree with them. What Jan says should concern you. If one of your forum members is "terrorizing" the staff forum for Belgium, please tell that person to not do that.
