i have a question orry if its in the wrong place i also did search ect

for users who cause trouble on a forum that i run they come on and just take the micky on the forum threads, i banned one user so far they all seem to be there just to try and cause trouble if we ban them do we have to notify them by email? oneuser the banned one we did notify and they have been banned before however come back and started again so banned again i did email them and they replied rudely saying they were not warned and would be complaining to you at forumup ?

No, you need not to warn them in any form. As it is your forum, you decide who is allowed to access it and who´s not. Still, it would be nice of an admin to warn members before banning them, or set their accounts inactive for a specified time span. Still, if a bot or even a normal user posts illegal content such as child porn on your forum, ban him without delay.

You don't have to send an email telling a user they have been banned. It's your choice.

They can come complain here. I'll just say they shouldn't have caused the problem they did that got them banned! It is not a God given right to be a member of a particular forum.

well this is what i do do.

I warn them via pm firstly then i tell them why they got the warning and what will happen if they carry on but when people start of a row or picking on admin and by causing trouble i ban them, we have a few that come on and just moan all the time and it is scaring off new users we try our best but with users like these its hard because the newer users wont post with them around. and today there on again Shocked they come on just critise then go admin try there best not to ban but now were fed up with it

I believe that one warning is enough. If the person continues, just ban and no message needed. They were told what the consequence would be if they did not stop so they know what the reason is for having been banned.

You need to be strict with troublemakers as they can ruin a forum, and quickly, as you are seeing happen with the new members not wanting to be a part of it. You don't have to have anyone on your forum that you do not want there for any reason. People do not have "rights" to belong to any certain person's forum. Just think, the person who made the forum can delete the whole thing at any moment in time.

Also ban them via their email address because some people have different IPs every time they go online. Of course they can create new free email addresses, but this takes up time and bores them. Finally, they will stop (in most cases).

Ban their email address. Just banning a name won't help, as the person could just register again with a new name. However, people can keep getting new email accounts.

Which brings me back to the strict, swift and quiet method of dealing with problem users. Get rid of them quickly with no discussion. After a while they will get bored and stop. But, if you send emails, etc. that just give them the attention they want and a chance to argue more in reply.

You must do "bud nipping". Nip the problems in the bud before they have a change to become weedy vines strangling your whole "garden".

And also remember, "Don't feed the trolls". That means just move unwanted posts to a hidden trash section you have. Do it with no comments or discussion. When the trolls post a complaint about that, just move that into the trash. Do not allow any "backtalk" to remain for others to read. That then encourages others to do the same, which is how you get the "gang up" threads.
