Make a new group and name it what you want. Go to Admin Panel>Group Admin>Management. On the page that comes up, click on the button that says, "Create New Group".

Chose to make the group "closed" or "hidden".

If you were to select "open", then anyone would be able to add themselves to that group.

"Closed" means that no one can add themselves, but the members of that group will be able to be seen by all on the Index page of your forum if people click on the "Usergroups" button at the top of the index page.

"Hidden" means that no one but the Admin will be able to see the list of the members of that group if clicking on the "Usergroups" button at the top of the Index page.

After that, go to the index page of your forum. At the top menu section, click on "Usergroups". Select the new group you just made and then add members to it.

If you are wanting to make part of your forum private and have only people in that group able to see the private parts, please see our Guide on making private forums at

The [Administrator] and [Moderator], it's just in a way to users can identify someone in charge easier.
To see the groups you must look in the up left of your forum.

Correct. Those are the only special ranks that show in the "Who's Online" box. Those words are not for groups. They are special rank words. But, they are the only special rank words that will show there.

To see the names of groups, it is as Cabrita told you in his post. Click on the word "usergroups" at the top of the forum page.
