i have a user category for clan members how do i move people to that cateogory

It helps for all the reasons given in the post I linked to in my post above.

Now to your real question, weeverboy:

If you by user category mean a usergroup, then you click on usergroups on top of the forum, find the right usergroup, if you have more than one, and add the members there.

You will find a field where you type the username, and click Add member, and there is also an option to look up members.

If you haven't created a usergroup for them yet, and/or if you want to have private forum(s) for this usergroup, then I suggest that you read this Guide. It takes you through all the steps:
