Hi support staff.

I want to change the format of my forum
Only registered users can see links on this forum!

that it lists the 10 Recent Posts in a column of the left hand side like this one:

How can I do that?

I think that format gives more life to the hottest topics.

Hi Forcv, it's good to see that your forum is working again, so you can think about developing it...

To add a last 10 posts feature is not possible now (it is a Mod to phpBB2), but I believe there will be a similar feature available, once we have upgraded to phpBB3. And that will happen some time after Raulken has decided that it is stable enough to be trusted.

Let med add here that experience tells me that a last 10 posts feature tends to focus too much attention on the last 10 posts only. I even disabled it on a couple of my old YaBB forums, to "force" the members to look up and post in the threads they were really interested in, instead. And it worked for the better in both cases. It does of course depend a lot on the main subject(s) of the forum, and the members, and not only on the feature.

I have removed your double posting about this...

FoxLeonard

FoxLeonard,

I received and email yesterday saying that phpBB3 is now available (see below).. I also went to forumup.com by Raulken and noticed that you are already using the Top 10 post feature.

I also want to enable that feature on my forum forcv.forumup.org/index.php?mforum=forcv because I've seen it in other forum and it helps keep the members focus on the most debated topics.

Can you list here the specific steps I need to take enable that feature on my forum?

Thanks.

Subject: phpBB3 Gold Released

"Hello,

phpBB is very proud to announce the immediate release of phpBB3.

The project has changed considerably since work on its second major release began. With a raft of new features requested by users and new ideas introduced by its developers, phpBB3 is more able than ever to support the new "social networking" trend. Security too has been a top priority with particular attention paid to reduce or eliminate the problems of the past. Indeed unusually for a project of this nature an independent security audit was performed to better ensure a safer future for its users.

So with great pride phpBB wishes to thank all of its developers, designers, team members and of course its community - please enjoy phpBB3.

The phpBB Teams.

Forcv, there seems to be a few misunderstandings here.

forcv wrote:

The email is from phpBB -- the makers of the software -- and not from ForumUp. phpBB3 is indeed available from phpBB, but it is not yet available -- installed -- on ForumUp's servers.

Uh Shocked

Do you mean on this page

The "top lists" there are of forums, not of post counts, and the feature is only in use on the "front pages" of each domain. It is not of use to, or available for, individual forums.

ForumUp will eventually upgrade to phpBB3, but it is up to Raulken's scrutiny and decision.

I see.

Why is Raukel waiting so much for this.? Why doesn't he want to update? He's loosing to the form that have done this. If he doesn't like it, I'd at least to have that option. I don't like to feel restricted by someones choice or taste.

I've seen the top 10 features working in other forum and it really boost the level of response on the debate.

Can you pass my concerns to him?
Thanks.

We are not updating to phpBB3 because it is just the first stable release.
first: We need to convert all the databases, thats going to take a long time.
Also, nothing should go wrong, so security, backups and stuff are of really great value.
Secondly, Raulken is waiting for maybe some more stable releases to be sure of no bugs. A first release always still contains bugs.
So it'll be ready when its ready to speak in phpbb.com terms.
Just be patiently, and remember we are also doing this in our Spare time.

You are not being restricted by someone's choice or taste. You are free to make a forum at any forum host, or even on your domain (if you have one or get one) and adding whatever forum software you chose to.

Exeleron explained why ForumUp is not yet converting to phpBB3. ForumUp WILL be converting to phpBB at a future date.

You cannot change your ForumUp forum to phpBB3. Our webmaster will do all the changing probably in a few months. Most all new programs have some bugs that were not detected when they were made and tested. Our webmaster wants to wait a few months for any previously unknown bugs to become known and fixed before he puts phpBB3 on ForumUp.

If you want a forum with phpBB3 this second, you will need to get your own domain and install it yourself.

This function is still not available. Unfortunately, you have to wait. We will announce it, once we migrate to phpBB3.

Thanks.

Any idea on the timing? In 3 months? 6 months? 1 year?

I am sorry, but there is no information on that matter. We are all waiting.
