Thank you fore your reply - If I understand it rigth - then I can expect some of/on at the forum sometimes. How long shall I accept the "of" before contakting the admin - because it is difficult to ges, if the forum is just of, because sombody are working ore if it is of because something is wrong - but perhaps you mean that message one the screen always tels me that "someone" is working?

I understand you, Zita. Now let's see if I can make myself understood, in my reply...

Sometimes, yes. The servers need maintenance, updates and so on, and on top of that comes the occasional error/failure, as was the case with the first down period now.
And, as I said, it is not uncommon that a server is glitchy until it "gets settled" after a restart. Some on-off/up-down is to expect in the first hours after a major error.

If nothing at all changes, then you can still give it an hour or so, as many things fix themselves, as soon as the server refreshes.
But you should therefore not be "afraid" to make an inquiry, or to report a problem "too early". With thousands of forums, dozens of domains, and dozens of servers, there is no way for the Staff to continiously monitor that everything is up and running at full speed. So, we need reports from the members...

It is near impossible to determine for sure what is happening at the server end, but there are some rules of thumb:
Many MySQL Errors, and most Debug Modes can come and go by themselves, usually within minutes, or within the hour.
All MySQL Errors means that the server is still online, but not in (full) connection with the forum database. Hence the "cannot connect to database multi".
A lot of work requires this disconnection to be made, and some of the more common MySQL error messages (like the one posted by you) are therefore signs that it is likely to be work in progress, rather than a failure. Which is why we usually give it an extra couple of hours, before making an urgent error report.
Another sign of work in progress is if the message on screen changes, during the "down" period. For example if it goes from "page cannot be found", to a MySQL Error, to another MySQL Error, etc. If it is a server failure, then it is more likely that the server "gets stuck" in one mode only.
In the best of worlds we -- the Support Staff -- would know when and where there is work in progress, but Raulken (the Webmaster) works alone, and prefers to do the needed work as fast as possible, instead of wasting time posting about it, (to simplify).
He is also a very busy man, which occasionally causes delays before an urgent problem report reaches him. Which can cause further confusion and/or delays. But most problems are fixed within hours, for a majority of the time.
All of the above is very simplified, of course, but I believe it covers the main points. Please ask again, if I have made myself less than clear...
