There is unfortunately no way to change the URL, Gamdar.

What you can do is get your own domain name

and make a so called simple redirection. The risenaoc.forumup.co.uk URL will still be what it says in the adress bar on the browser, when visiting the forum, but you don't have to use it to link to your forum.

And if domain and redirection is not an option for you, then you could quite simply get a free web page, and link to the forum from there, instead.

In both cases you will not have to use the risenaoc name and link in public anymore, and that should hopefully make it much less of a problem for the guild by that name...

I would like to change to

As you said in your last posting, this is not possible the easy way.
my question is: Is it possible to create a new forum, backup the old one an run back the backup to the new?

Thanx!

Hi Ziggy,

It is not possible to use the back-up from one ForumUp forum to another.

If you actually need to change the URL, then a so called simple redirection, or to just link from a homepage or "portal" with the correct URL, as described above, are the only options.

When I say "if you actually need to change the URL", I mean that what it says in the adress bar on the browser, is of less importance than you might believe, as long as you promote your forum in a clever and consistent way.

For example, promote the forum with the name, rather than with the URL...

Use this code, when linking to your forum on other forums:
Code:
[url=http://saarlandsmarties.forumup.org/]Roadster-Chapter-Saar Foren[/url]

...and you will get this link to click:

You can do the same in HTML, and there are banner links and such options as well, to "get around" the URL "problem".

As far as search engines go, the name of the forum -- Roadster-Chapter-Saar Foren -- is much more important than the URL.

You will find more advice on forum promotion here:

No. If you want the actual, real URL of your forum to be something different than it is now, you have to make a new forum with the actual URL you want. You cannot use the backup to upload to a ForumUp forum. So, if you wanted posts from the old forum on the new forum, you would have to do copy and paste, or retype them all. All your members would have to register on the new forum.

I understand their not wanting the name of their guild in the actual URL of your forum. To not have that at all, you need to make a new forum and have your members register on the new forum.
