We've just opened this forum and we'd like everyone to check it out and review it. We have listed many topics of interest..to name a few...Poetry and Book discussions, Gardening, Automotive, things along that nature and also a Freebie Section. Hope this isn't too much info that seems like advertising. Thanks. Noodle

My 2 cents.....it's too much.

If you want a chef/cooking forum the bulk of it should be about cooking.

I hate forums that have too many sub-sections/sub-forums.

I also don't care for the pink, but hey...perhaps a lot of ladies might like that. I doubt you'll have many guys. Maybe you don't want guys?

Generally I don't like the idea of a forum that's too broad in scope.

I could be wrong. Perhaps you'll have twice as many members as I have in half the time?

But it's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

Good luck.

Well, everyone has their opinion, but this isn't about cooking only it's about freebies and many other topics which are listed in separate catagories. The page layout for now isbecause it's Valentine's Day. Notice it? We are accepting anyone we are not stereotyping. If you read the whole site it says automotive and the second Admin happens to be my BF. LOL Anyways, Thanks. Smile

Hello. Certainly not too much information. You are supposed to give details about your forum in this section.

Edward, it is not a cooking forum. Though, just at a quick glance, the title of the forum might make one think that.

Why would anyone assume that just because the owner of a forum decided upon a template that has mostly pink, that they don't want any men to join? Rolling Eyes Would you then think that forum mostly blue is one where women are not wanted? Confused The color of the template should not be what makes a person decide or not to join and post on a forum. Anyway, that is the Valentine's Day template, and today is Valentine's day!

Ha ha ha.....you both crack me up.

I was asked to review it. I did.

It's my opinion.

I also don't like to drink wine.

You guys may love it. Fine.

I still don't like wine.

I stand by my initial thoughts and impressions when I "reviewed" that forum.

If you don't like people giving honest opinion perhaps you should not ask for it.

Watch your attitude, Edward. We were simply replying politely to what you said.

Not all of what you said was a mere opinion. You made assumptions as well.

Like Edward said about the pink color, it does "detour" potential boy members. As I can see from what Margret said and getting linked to the site that it is a valentines theme. (I would think you would change the color after today.)

And also like Edward said, the forum categories are a little broad. A potential new member might be overwhelmed with all the forums and choose to go else where.

Thats my 2 cents. Very Happy

My attitude? What are you talking about?

I didn't use Rolling Eyes and Confused in my comments and I wished her luck and I stated it was my opinion and everything I said stands as I see it and saw it upon visiting her site.

But if it makes you all feel better:

I love it. Very Happy

Enjoy. Very Happy Very Happy

best of luck and many happy members.... Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Well, I accept opinons. I stated the theme was for VD. Didn't know my forum was a drastic issue. I planned on changing some things around so it's not so stretched out. I just created it yesterday in a matter of a few short hours. So, it will be modified as needed. I'm thinking up ways to put certain things in diff catagories or taking some away. These things take time. I switched to this server because I don't have to constantly make my own which was frustrating me on the former server I was using. So, if someone has some ideas on how I can switch some catagories around or something please offer up the advice. Smile

Well with the category issue. You should have a general games subforum, and as your forum grows you can add the forums you have now. If you take a look at my forum I only have a one subforum related to gaming.(

).

And another way I have seen that makes your forum look more professional is adding a favicon.

Take a look here to learn more.

A good place to make a simple favicon if you are not a artist in the form of this, is to make one here.

Madiann, I don't think a forum can be "too broad" -- cover too many topics -- but it can indeed be too "spread out", especially to begin with.

Too many categories and/or too many forums within each category, can easily make the forum seem slow -- slower than it actually is -- as many forums are likely to have very few posts, and it may be a month between new posts. A skim reading fast scrolling guest can easily get the wrong impression.

And people who decide to join, may find it hard to know what category and forum to post in. There are so many options, and it's so exact, that many things may seem off topic everywhere -- believe me or not...

In that sense I would go with Scoobs suggestion, and make one general forum out of two or several, for a few of the topics, at least.

Another thing, in a similar vein, that has worked good on my forums, is to make an Announcement Topic for Related Links in each forum.

Thereby eliminating the need for this:

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE CRAFT PROJECT
What Are Your Fingers Itching To Make.
Moderators Noodle, Rocket 0 0 No Posts

CRAFT SITES
All Craft Sites.

The Craft Sites forum is replaced by a much more handy Announcement Related Links topic, in the Crafts forum, where the members can add links, and where you and the moderators also can add links that you find posted in the threads on the subject...

Ok...I have removed and added certain boards to a different part of their catagory so that there is pretty much one main header for the smaller sections. I didn't do em all but I think it all looks alot more cleaned up. The theme I chose seems to work well with my title...at least that's what I thought. So, with that said...let the reviewing continue. Laughing

It does. Now I reach the bottom whithin reasonable time.

Ooops, that sentence didn't turn out as it should... Rolling Eyes

Indeed. It takes the "misunderstanding" one step further; in a positive sense, I hasten to add. A suitable logo will make it perfect.

Then it's time to focus on content...
