How to Add Counters, Shoutboxes & Games

ForumUp does not officially approve or guarantee scripts from third parties. Use scripts at your own risk! Some scripts might cause problems for your forum, including resulting in malware being added to your computer. Always analyze the script code and understand what the code will do before adding it to your forum.

Directions for adding a Counter to your forum:

  1. You will need to find a free counter service provider.
  2. Do a simple google search for "free counter" to search the options on your own.
  3. You will then need to highlight and copy the code that you recieve for your counter.
  4. In your Admin Control Panel, create a new forum for your Counter (Create a new Category first if you'd like the counter to be in a category all on it's own) and paste the Counter's code into that forum's description.
  5. You may leave the forum unlocked if you wish, but lock it if you don't actually want anybody to make posts in this forum.
  6. Reload your forum Index and the counter should be activated!

CAUTION:Having a counter on your forum can create problems in the future when trying to add new categories or forums. If you experience this problem, simply remove the counter code from that forum's description. Then create your new category or forum. Once this is done you can then repaste the counter code back into it's original forum's description. *Note: this will not affect your counter's number.

Directions for adding a Shoutbox to your forum:

  1. You will need to find a website that offers free shoutboxes for forums. Here are some examples of places you can get one from:

    • Only registered users can see links on this forum!
      Register or Login on forum!

    • Or you can do a simple google search for "shoutbox" to look through the options on your own.

  2. You will then need to highlight and copy the code that you recieve for your shoutbox.
  3. In your Admin Control Panel, create a new forum for your shoutbox (Create a new Category first if you'd like the shoutbox to be in a category all on it's own) and paste the shoutbox's code into that forum's description.
  4. You should then also set the forum to "locked."
  5. Reload your forum Index and you should see your new shoutbox!
    • If you wish to edit the size of your shout box:
      • Go back to the forum description that you placed the shoutbox's code into
      • Look for a part of the code that says height=xxx width=xxx
      • Change these to any desired pixel height

CAUTION:Having a shoutbox on your forum can create problems in the future when trying to add new categories or forums. If you experience this problem, simply remove the shoutbox code from that forum's description. Then create your new category or forum. Once this is done you can then repaste the shoutbox code back into it's original forum's description. *Note: this should not make you lose any comments that have been previously posted on your shoutbox.

Directions for adding Games to your forum:

  1. You will need to find a website that offers game codes. Here are some examples of sites you can find several games at:

    • Only registered users can see links on this forum!

Regarding Shoutmix

I removed a link for the "Shoutmix" link because yesterday they let their domain expire.

If you had one of these shoutboxes, you'll simply need to create a new one from one of the other links that are given, or by searching for your own one Smile

EDIT: Shoutmix is back up and online. Apparently they were having some problems and that is why it was down for a couple days. I put their link back in the tutorial as well.

I have seen a few reports from people about malware such as trojans and dialers, seeming to come from their forum. In those cases, it turned out to do with certain counter scripts that the people installed on their forum. Some counter scripts are hiding malware codes in their scripts.

Here is a list of counters reported to add malware, as taken from:.

Only registered users can see links on this forum!
Register or Login on forum!

software-free.org (dialer loader pages)

trafficredlight.net (trojan repository)

hostance.net (trojan repository)

138.188.193.166 (trojan "loader checks")

freestat.ws (dialer scam stats)

specialstat.com (dialer scam stats)

statistiche.ws (dialer scam stats)

webmobile.ws (dialer scam stats)

superstat.info (dialer scam stats)

megastat.net (dialer scam stats)

puntostat.com (dialer scam stats)

clubstat.com (trojan)

Hiperstat.com

Mystat.ws

clubstat.com (trojan)

People should avoid adding counters from those sites.
