Well I know one thing, with the style inheritance feature which has been added in the 3.0.3 release, it is going to be a lot easier for forumup to add styles to the database, because the forums only need prosilver installed. The only thing they wil need at this point is the css and the imageset, the templates can be inherited
(imagesets aren't even needed either, because you can just use the prosilver ones )
So it is definitely a step forward for free phpBB3 services.

I have been looking at the styles for phpBB 3, the ones that can be found on the official website, and the style I use at the moment isn't there. So I guess that when our forum is converted we will have the pro silver style instead ? ? ?
Amelandse, the style structures are completely different with phpBB3. New styles had to be made to be able to work with phpBB3. Some of the style makers remade their old styles that were for phpBB2 to now also be in phpBB3. But many of the styles from phpBB2 have not been changed to phpBB3.
We do not know what style Raulken, the webmaster, will chose as the default style for ForumUp forums. It might be the new proSilver, or maybe it will be the updated subSilver2 that now works on phpBB3.
However, there will be many new styles to chose from, so you will be able to find something you like.

Thanks for this explanation. However, I'm still having this question:
The style I use at the moment is obviously not compatible with phpBB 3. When our forum is converted to the new version, our style will not work anymore.
Is it then automatically replaced by the standard forum style Raulken will have chosen?
I think it will, but am not sure. That's also why I asked if it might be wise to use a standard style at the time of transition.
Without the changes I made to the currently used style (different background, my own head banner) it may be less susceptible to errors?
I just thought that the less "exotic" a forum is, the less possibilities for (fatal) errors.

It would have to be automatically replaced by the standard forum style.

Any changes you made to your style in terms of color changes and the like won't matter, because none of the phpBB2 styles will exist on ForumUp after the changeover to phpBB3.
The only thing that possibly would carry over would be the logo image you chose to add, but I am not sure about that.
So for now, just keep your forum as you like.
By the way, I have started to make some templates for phpBB3. I submitted one to the official phpBB site and it was accepted. It is a Valentine theme, since there never was a nice Valentine theme in my opinion. You can see it at

. I made buttons for it in several languages, including Dutch! (But now I have to update it yet again since they made changes and the current version of phpBB3 is now 3.0.5.)
Since you a nice user, if you have a preference or idea for a style you would like, let me know and I will make it. But, I only am making styles based on the subSilver template, because the prosilver style is too complicated.

Actually, the subSilver2 style also comes with phpBB3 and needs to be installed, since some of the new themes are based on it. Also, now that more styles have been made for phpBB3, and since not all follow the same structure as either prosilver or subSilver2, each different style made needs all the elements added to the server, not only the css and imagesets. The template files for each theme also are needed. (Each theme has many template files. It is not just one template file anymore.)
But, it is true that for each theme, one can use an imageset that had been originally made for another theme.
