I agree with you. There is no hurry and it's much better to make sure the major bugs are ironed out before converting all the forums.
I can't begin to imagine what a huge task that is. Wishing all who are involved in it, the best of luck. Wink

I hope it is okay for us to make suggestions or ask general question though. At first I felt a little hesitant about the new version, being só used to the "old" one. But now that I have begun to take a closer look and started to work with phpBB 3.05, I'm beginning to like it more and more. Laughing

Yes, it is ok for you to make suggestions and ask general questions.

But as far any mods being added, I don't know if Raulken will add any, because then when there will be yet another upgrade to phpBB3, some mods are not compatible with the former versions.

Regarding links not opening in a new window, one can post instructions for users about how to make a link open in a new window. But I, too, prefer links to automatically open in a new window so users still are on the forum page while then looking at a different site.

Questions about and suggestions for the upgrade of Forumup forums.

# Links visible and clickable for guests too.
I understand the reason for disabling this in the phpBB2 version, namely blocking Spam.
Now I am wondering if it is possible to limit the account activation to Administrator activation only. The Administrator can then check each new registration before activating the account.

# External link opens in a new window or tab.
I assume this is only possible with a modifaction script. I, and many others, would really appreciate it if this function was added to all Forumup forums.

# What about the header and footer space when the forum is ads free?
At the moment html is used to put something in there (image, text, banner) but will that still work after the upgrade?

# The text size in phpBB2 is done with different definitions than in phpBB3 (size=14 becomes size-150 )
Will this be adjusted automatically during the upgrade or will the re-sized text look "weird"?

# Portal.
Will this be added? Not necessary, quite fun though. Wink

# Portaal.
Wordt dit toegevoegd? Niet noodzakelijk, wél leuk. Wink

Amelandse,

I took out the coloring in your post. It is very hard on people's eyes if they try to read it, especially those eyes which have seen their share of colors in life!

That's okay. Wink I thought it might help distinguish the different languages. Laughing Didn't realise it might be hard on the eyes of some.

Ok, Now I found this topic. So it is obviously not possible to update our forum by youself.

But when does that happen globally on forumup.com? I ave been thinking of changing the server/forum host for my forum to another one where this uppdate is alread running and adding info to the forum users that the forum has moved. There are plenty of other forum host providers who provide the new version. I want it now!

We have not updated to phpBB3 so all the bugs would be ironed out once we installed it. There have been processes of starting the installation.

There has not been a date set of the change over. But I have left a post to the webmaster to bring it to his attention.

[edited by gg'ssimon to fix vocabulary error. It won't be a "migration", but a change over to the new version.]

I hope ForumUp gets updated (hopefully Smile) by the end of 2009 or possibly early 2010. My guess is that you guys are probably waiting for 3.0.6 or 3.0.7 to be released before you make the move?
