Computer problems (viruses and malware)

Aside from viruses, other things can be in your computer that cause problems. These are Malware such as Trojan Horses, Worms, Browser Hijackers, Scumware, Dialers and Adware. Many virus protection programs do not find and remove things other than viruses. So you will need some other programs to find and eliminate computer pests that are not actual viruses.

To download the programs below or make use of the free online scans, turn off all popup stoppers before beginning, as a new window will come up with the screen to allow the download and scans.

Note that different programs can find things the others don't, so it is worth scanning your computer with more than one program.

McAfee will only scan for free, but you then will know if you have a virus or not. If you do, you can then decide to buy a virus detection and removal program.

Symantec, makers of Norton Antivirus, will scan your computer for free for viruses and trojans, but will not eliminate them. Still, the results will be very helpful to you to know what problems your computer might have.

Trojan horses, Adware and Worms

Some virus removal programs do not detect or remove trojan horses, worms, dialer, malware and hijackers, or at least not all of them.

You have to pay to have it automatically remove the items found. But, the listing of the results can be removed manually by you if you know what you are doing, since the location of the files are given.
