Update Sun Dec 30, 2007 2:32 am

All problems with the server are not yet solved. Hence the periods of downtime, while the Webmaster continues his work.

The long periods of uninterupted "uptime" the last couple of days, is a sign that he is getting there -- if slowly.

See the Dec 27th update below, for further details and list of affected domains.

Update Fri Dec 28, 2007 2:42 pm

All domains are back online, and seemingly stable at the time of posting this.

As of yet there is no confirmation from the Webmaster that the problem is fixed. He could still be working on the server, and this may be another test run.

See the Dec 27th update below, for further details and list of affected domains.

Update Thu Dec 27, 2007 7:25 pm

One server with several domains (see list below) is offline.

The Webmaster is working on it, and we now know the cause, as explained in the following quotes:

gg'ssimon wrote:
I have just communicated live with Raulken. He has been working on the problem, but it is not yet fixed. The problem is with the Apache server software.

NO DATA IS LOST OR WILL BE LOST!

gg'ssimon wrote:
To clarify, it is the Apache server processing that is out- what lets the data get out and into the world. It is NOT a problem with the software for the forums themselves. All the forums and all their data are fine and not affected. They are just "trapped" inside the server, not being able to get out due to the server's processing problem with it's software.

I suppose one could think of it as if the key to door doesn't always work to open the lock to let the data get outside. Wink

We understand the great frustration and are so very sorry this has happened

Several domains are offline again (see list below).

The Webmaster is notified anew.

We still don't know the cause of this problem.

All we can do at this point is to once again apologize for the problems and the inconveniences for you and your forum members.

Update Tue Dec 25, 2007 8:52 pm

The server(s) and all domains are back online, and without disturbances, since a couple of hours.

There is however no definite "fixed report" from the Webmaster. And therefore we cannot yet be sure that everything will be up and running smoothly, from now on.

But with the slightest of luck...

Thanks for your patience through all of this.

Update Mon Dec 24, 2007 1:41 pm

There is unfortunately no progress, or any actual news to report.

The affected server(s) is/are offline for a vast majority of the time now. We still don't know the cause of the problem.

The Webmaster is notified, more than once. But looking at the long delay, it seems more and more likely that the latest reports have not reached him, and/or that he cannot do more -- because of the untimely time of the year.

Meanwhile, all we can do is to once again ask for your patience and apologize for the inconveniences for you and your forum members.

Update Sat Dec 22, 2007 5:43 pm

One or two server(s) with several domains (see list below) is/are still going offline for periods of time -- anything from a few minutes to several hours -- after which they come back online "as if nothing happened".

Perhaps I shouldn't joke about this, but I can't help thinking that the server is trying to get some holidays of its own...

The Webmaster is notified about the problems, and he seemed to have solved it right before the weekend. He is now notified again that the problem persists, but it may take its time before he can attend to it.

We will do our best to keep you informed.

Meanwhile, all we can do is to ask for your patience and apologize for the inconveniences for you and your forum members.

Update Thu Dec 20, 2007 7:36 pm

I am happy to announce that all the domains are back up again (list of earlier affected domains below).

However, there may be glitches and MySYQL errors to come, until the server -- or servers -- is/are stable again. But with the slightest of luck, everything should be up and running as usual, from now on...

Thanks for your patience!

FoxLeonard

Earlier information follows below

Several ForumUp domains are down (see list further down), for reasons unknown to the Support Staff, but at least one server is offline at the time of posting this.

The Webmaster is notified, but there is no up to date information from him. All we know is that he will attend to the problem as soon as possible.

We will do our best to update the information as soon we have some news.

All we can do meanwhile is to ask for your patience, and apologize for the inconvenience for you and your forum members.

I would just like to say that we have been offline for days and not just several hours.
Once we came online again yesterday afternoon but disappeared again as I was writing a post.
The site never came back on again.

We would appreciate anything new that you have on the matter as everyone is asking and I don't know what to say to them.

Fox, as of right now, you can add .UK to the list.

Thankfully not, Alice. It's up now, in any case. That was probably just a glitch or two.

.CO.UK is on a completely different server that has been up and running as it should, through all of this...

Famous last words and all that... Rolling Eyes

Disregard my post about .UK. I can get on there now.

Xristiana, the problem started on Wednesday 19th, and the server was back online on Thursday, at which point the problem seemed to be fixed.

But on Friday the server (or servers) started going offline for periods of anything from a few minutes, to several hours at the time.

That's what I tried to say in my information post above, and nothing else.

At the moment it seems that it goes offline for long periods, with only short "bursts" of being online. Which could mean that the server is becoming "weaker" -- if you excuse the human term.

It happened to me too, probably at the same time. I thought I would take the opportunity to put up a Season's Greetings banner on my forum, and it went up in smoke again, in the middle of that process. I don't have a clue how my forum Header looks at the moment, but I'm sure it is a mess... Rolling Eyes

The sad fact is that I do not really have any news, except that the problem seems to get worse, if there is any change at all.

The Webmaster is notified (more than once), but there are no news from him.

A worst case scenario is that the latest reports have not reached him, and/or that he cannot do more at the moment -- because of the untimely time of the year. But that's just me thinking out loud...

Thanks for your reply FoxLeonard, the explanation helped.

I don't know what 'the server is getting weaker" means but then I'm not a computer freak unfortunately. Sad

Hope we don't go through the Xmas and New Year day holidays offline. Rolling Eyes

Erm, it was actually an attempt to describe it to non computer freaks. Sorry if the metaphor became confusing instead.

To start with the server "managed" to get back online quite often, and for longish periods, and now it is offline for a vast majority of the time, as if it doesn't have much strength left, so to speak. Hence "getting weaker"...

That is certainly not what is happening, in technical terms, but looking at this development it seems more and more likely that the server(s) eventually will go offline for good, until the problem is attended to.

Yes, I understood the metaphor, I just don't understand what it means in technical terms. That's what I meant.

So the problem is bigger and more serious that I thought. Confused

Is there a possibility that we will lose everything?

Not really. Usually a server goes offline and comes back, and stays up -- a glitch, and that's it --, or it goes offline for good, until it is fixed. This time it has been "struggling" back and forth, for some reason.

Quote:

Anything is possible, but I cannot see any signs in that direction now. It doesn't seem like a "crash" -- or the build up to one -- in that sense at all.

We staff members don't really know what is going on.

It is extremely unlikely that there would be any data loss. I would not worry about that.

Ciobanesc, the little we know about the problem is reported in this thread already.

It is unusual indeed, that a ForumUp server is down for this long. The Webmaster would usually have attended to this again, within 24 hours or less of the start of the second period of problems (on Friday). But, as I say in my update now, above, the latest reports may not have reached him, and/or he may not be able to do more at the moment -- because of the holidays.

I'm as frustrated as the rest of you by this, especially as i can't get in touch with any of my members to let them know what is happening and to wish them all a merry christmas, but, what can we do? Nothing! I guess we all just have to be patient and hope the problem gets sorted soon.....fingers crossed eh?

Thankyou to the staff here for keeping us informed, it must be frustrating for you too not really knowing what is going on.....

Merry Christmas everyone. Razz
